Growing with sustainability is what drives us forward

As of 2026, MRN needs new bauxite mines to continue producing and investing in western Pará. That's why we've started the Environmental Licensing process for the New Mines Project, also known as PNM.

  • The PNM includes bauxite mining on five new plateaus (Rebolado, Escalante, Jamari, Barone and Cruz Alta Leste) in the municipalities of Oriximiná, Terra Santa and Faro.
  • Most of the structures needed are those already in use in current operations.
  • The company's continued operations contribute to maintaining more than 6,000 jobs, millions in taxes and investments in various socio-environmental projects in the region.
  • The project brings an innovative difference to the safety of its operations: the implementation of the Dry Tailings Pit Disposal Method, which involves changing the way the tailings are disposed of - consisting only of soil and water.
  • The Environmental Impact Study and Report (EIA/RIMA) were drafted by the specialized and independent company Arcadis. Various actions were structured, organized and implemented with a view to making these studies widely and unrestrictedly accessible to the public.

  • The Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA) held three public hearings in the municipalities of Faro, Terra Santa and Oriximiná, attended by a total of more than 1,600 people, which took around 20 hours to complete and provided for a wide range of participants in the debate.
