Because they have structures located in the Self-Rescue Zone (ZAS), the communities Boa Vista, Boa Nova and Saracá, belonging to the municipality of Oriximiná, are in the focus of both the Emergency Action Plan for Mining Dams (PAEBM) and the measures adopted by the company in the continuous improvement of the safety of its dam system.
In a partnership with the communities and the municipality, through the Civil Defense, a schedule of actions was built and adopted and it involves such activities as:
- Visit to the tailings system
- Dissemination of the PAEBM through primers and folders aimed at the communities
- Continuous training of this target-audience with an initial focus on the Plan's actions
- Conducting half-yearly drills with good adherence in the communities.
The dissemination of the PAEBM seeks to keep the communities in the areas of influence of dams and/or tailings ponds informed and prepared for any type of incident, thus acting preventively disseminating information about the subject.
The PAEBM is a requirement regulated by Ordinance 70389/2017, of the National Mining Agency (ANM), as provided for in Federal Act No.12.334/2010 of the National Dam Safety Policy. This is a technical document drafted by the company which:
- Identifies potential dam-related emergency situations
- Points out where the actions to be executed in these cases will be established
- Defines the agents to be notified, in addition to the strategy, means of dissemination and warning to the surrounding communities in order to minimize risks
