Because we operate in a National Forest (Flona) and close to a Biological Reserve (Rebio), our activities are supervised by both the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA) and the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio).

Regarding the processes in support areas, the limits of which being outside the Conservation Unit (CU), such as hospital activities and the Solid Waste Treatment Facility, we have a direct interface with the environmental departments.

For example, for drilling and abstracting water from wells in MRN's plateaus, the agency responsible for issuing the permit is the State Department for Environment and Sustainability (SEMAS/PA).

Whether at federal, state or municipal level, our high priority is the management of the licensing processes, timely compliance with the constraints, and good relations with the environmental agencies.

We always value the compliance with established deadlines and conditions mutually agreed upon in contract - such as environmental compensations, monitoring programs of physical, biotic and socioeconomic environments - and issuance of the annual environmental report.

IBAMA is responsible for analyzing our studies and issuing licenses for bauxite extraction and beneficiation, support structures, construction works and other related interventions.

But, certain activities are subject to authorization and/or consent from ICMBio, the agency responsible for the administration of the federal Conservation Units (UC) and has an office in Porto Trombetas and support units within the Flona and the Rebio.

The request for the Grant to the Right to Use Water Resources, for mining purposes, is granted by the National Water Agency (ANA) and includes abstraction from, and discharge of effluents into, the Trombetas River as well as in tributary streams.
